Welcome to the Dual Language Academy Library!

My name is Mrs. Burke, and this is my 12th school year as DLAMP’s Library Specialist.

This school year, all of DLAMP’s Preschool - 8 students have weekly scheduled Library times. Students in Preschool, TK, Kinder and First Grade check out one book at each library class, and those books remain in the students’ classrooms.  Students in grades 2-8 check out two books (one in English and one in Spanish) and can take those books home. Library book bags have been provided to grade 2-6 students to assist students in safely transporting Library books to and from school. Students will reuse these bags all year long.  If these bags break, they can be replaced with Ziplock bags from home. 

Library books may be renewed (unless another student has placed a hold on the book), but they must be brought with them to Library time to be renewed. If books are not returned by the due date, they are overdue.  When books are overdue, the student will not be able to check out another book until their Library books are returned.  If the student has a long overdue book without renewing, (three weeks or longer) that student will not be able to check out any additional books until the overdue book is returned. An overdue notice will be given after two due date periods. Fines are assessed for any lost or damaged books. Recuperating fines for lost or damaged books helps us maintain our Library collection. 

As part of my commitment to PBIS, I participate in giving Positive Paws to students for extraordinary behavior and for following Library expectations. (Coming soon: Students will learn ways to spend Positive Paws in the Library!)

Also a PBIS initiative, in grades 6-8, we create a Library Respect Agreement for each class. Respect Agreements are posted in the Library.   

As the school year progresses, I will add glimpses of the DLAMP Library as well as resources to this webpage, so check back again soon!

Want to donate a book to our Library?

  • Ebooks and audiobooks in English and Spanish through TumbleBooks and more, and are easy to navigate.  Libby has downloadable ebooks and audiobooks in English and Spanish.  Libby is an app for Apple and Android that can be used by downloading the Libby app for use on mobile devices. You can also use Libby on your computer through the web browser.

Monterey Public Library (this website is available in multiple languages - click on the Translate icon at the top of the page): Library cards for the Monterey Public Library (MPL) are free to residents of the State of California. Apply for a MPL Library card online by clicking here or visiting the Monterey Public Library website.  At the top of the landing page under “Library Services”, hover over “Checkout”, then click on “Library Cards”, then click on “Apply for a Card Now” . A separate tab will open, where you’ll fill in the online application for instant access to Library material.   • Ebooks and audiobooks in English and Spanish through Northern California Digital Library and Cloud Library (websites are available in English or Spanish - click on the language icon at the top of the homepage). The Palace Project has downloadable ebooks and audiobooks in English and Spanish.  The Palace Project is an app for Apple or Android that can be used by downloading the Palace Project app for use on mobile devices - Below the The Palace Project icon, click on App store or Google play.

Carmel Public Library: Free digital Library cards are available even if you don’t live in Carmel - a digital card gives you access to ebooks, audiobooks, music, newspapers, magazines, and much more!  Get a free Carmel Public Library (CPL) in-person at the Harrison Memorial Library (at the corner of Ocean Ave & Lincoln St in Carmel) or Park Branch Library (at the corner of Mission Street & 6th Avenue in Carmel). Additional Free Digital Storytime Resources

YouTube has many channels that present read alouds in English and Spanish. Here are some good ones!:

  • PBS Kids Channel: “PBS KIDS believes the world is full of possibilities, and so is every child. As the number one educational media brand for kids, PBS KIDS helps children ages 2-8 learn lessons that last a lifetime. Through television, digital media, and community-based programs, PBS KIDS wants children to see themselves uniquely reflected and celebrated in lovable, diverse characters who serve as positive role models, and to explore their feelings and discover new adventures along the way..” The  PBS Kids Channel features authors and famous people reading lots of fun books - great for our youngest Lobos.
