Distance/Online Learning & School Closure Update

Spring Break was very different this year as compared to other years, but we hope you had an opportunity to find some joy and rest. As our Spring Break comes to an end this Friday, March 27, I wanted to provide you some important information about school closures and our transition to online/distance learning. Today, the Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Deneen Guss and county district superintendents decided that all schools within Monterey County will be closed until at least May 4th.

Grab and Go Meals: Beginning March 30

Beginning Monday, March 30, upon return from MPUSD's Spring Break, the district will offer Grab and Go meals at 16 school sites from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Federal requirements state students must be present to receive meal. Applies to students 18 and younger.

MPUSD Preschool Meal Service

MPUSD Preschool Meal Service: Due to the unexpected closure of our preschools, MPUSD wants to ensure our preschool children have access to food during the two-week closure. (Our TK-12 programs are observing their regularly scheduled Spring Break. We will continue to monitor the situation beyond Spring Break and address accommodations as needed for TK-12 programs.)

Message from Administration

Dear Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Community,

It is with pride that the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District selected a Two-Way Dual Language (TWDL) program to further the goal of graduating students who are prepared for our global communities.  This program is consistent with the district’s goals of preparing students to reach academic targets in both English and Spanish while developing critical intercultural proficiencies. This highly researched based program sets students on the pathway to full bilingualism and biliteracy. Ultimately, they will have the opportunity to attain the California State Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diploma and receive college credit for their work during their K-8 years.  This will afford students a college going mindset and future opportunities for post-secondary study and employment.

In October of 2018, the Dual Language Academy began its process of aligning  its present Dual Language program through the grade levels working toward a fuller and more focused  implementation. Currently, the DLAMP school program is the only K-8 grade program in MPUSD. DLAMP also the oldest Dual Language program in the District that is committed to moving students into high school with high levels of proficiency in two languages, high academic proficiencies and intercultural skills.

This TWDL Framework outlines the pathway for all students in the program, and provides guidance for teachers and administrators to develop a full understanding of the program at all grade levels.  DLAMP has worked closely with stakeholders to complete this framework. DLAMP and MPUSD are committed to working together in order to continue the successful implementation of all facets of our program.  We are pleased to offer this program to our community and provide our DLAMP students with opportunities that will prepare them to be leaders in a multilingual and multicultural world.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Rita Burks

Sinceramente,
Sra. Rita Burks
